Teaching philosophy

Considering all of my diverse musical experiences, teaching brings me great joy.

Because of my own unique journey as a pianist who has studied the physiology of piano playing through highly technical movement-based techniques such as the Taubman Approach and the knowledge I have sought from some of the world’s leading pedagogues, I have been able to develop a granular level of technical awareness that directly translates to a truly imaginative sound-world with infinite possibilities. I apply this knowledge in a highly personalized manner to teach students of all ages, skill levels, and neuro-typicalities.

Every pianist is different, as we are all built physically and neurologically in distinctive ways. My goal is to fully understand your setup to ensure that there is no technical hindrance to the music making process and that your playing will go as far as the extent of your imagination.

  • I believe that teaching is an honor that comes with great responsibility in many arenas. Every student is endowed with their own raw talents and passions for pursuing music. I personalize my teaching style to optimally fit the holistic needs of my students so they may ultimately discover their highest level of individual truth and genuine love for the music they play. This dictates how I approach technique and musicianship.

  • Practicing with devoted intentionality is the key ingredient to success. This applies to honing awareness of one’s unique anatomy and the infinite combination of motions that contribute to accuracy and control in healthy, reliable sound production. With a diverse musical curriculum, I ensure that each of my students become fluent in their language of music.

  • Musical growth occurs away from the instrument as well. We should be just as fully committed to the enrichment of our expression through non-musical means as we are to the diligence we display in the practice room. I fully support my students' curiosity for experiencing as much of life as possible for inspiration that can fuel our music making.

  • Our successes will inevitably be surrounded by countless disappointments and “failures”, a term I do not use lightly. I also strive to incorporate patience and compassion within a healthy learning environment to foster confidence in my students. This will have a lasting positive impact on their relationship with music.
