Biography
Day Yang is a pianist and countertenor based in Los Angeles. His professional work spans the realm of liturgical church work, choral and solo voice, and collaborative and solo piano.
He has performed concerts in venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall and Segerstrom Center for the Arts and has worked with renowned conductors such as James Conlon and Carl St. Clair. Upcoming performances include LA Phil’s Noon to Midnight: Field Recordings series at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, exploring intersections of art, technology, and nature.
Day has held the liturgical position of Director of Music at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen, CO. He also has extensive nonprofit experience with musical organizations such as founding Chamber Music Evergreen (CME) and Seicento Baroque Ensemble in Boulder, CO.
Day is also a seasoned piano instructor of over 15 years of private and institutional teaching experience, with his students being prizewinners in both local and national competitions and successful candidates of multiple examination boards. Aside from private teaching, he currently holds a teaching position at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine through their HEAL (Humanities, Ethics, Art, and Law) Program.
Day holds both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and is continuing with the Graduate Certificate program on full scholarship. His influential musical mentors include renowned pedagogues such as Robert McDonald from the Juilliard School, Antoinette Perry, and Kevin Fitz-Gerald from the USC Thornton School of Music.
